Members can use Alexa to place a hands-free live call to their nurse or family. As a caregiver, you may need to help them use the correct phrase or choose the right calling option.
Step 1 — Teach the Member the Live Call Phrases
Members can initiate a live call by saying:
“Alexa, call John.”
These phrases trigger Alexa’s built-in calling system (not Zemplee). The call will ring on the family’s phone, Alexa App, and Alexa devices (see “How to Set Up Alexa App Calling”).
Step 2 — Help Them Respond if Alexa Asks a Question
Sometimes Alexa may ask:
“Call their phone or Alexa devices?”
Encourage the Member to say:
👉 “Alexa devices.”
This option is the most reliable because it rings all of the family’s Alexa-enabled devices.
Step 3 — Confirm the Contact Exists
If Alexa replies:
“I can’t find that person,”
the family’s phone number may not have been added yet.
Ask the family for the preferred number and follow your facility workflow to add it to Zemplee (see “How to Add or Update a Family Contact in Zemplee”).
Step 4 — Support the Member During the Call
Once Alexa connects the call, you may help the Member speak clearly or manage device volume. The conversation is live just like a normal phone call.
Quick Tips
Live calls do not use Zemplee Alerts.
Families without the Alexa App may see a generic U.S. number — this is normal.
