Let's set up an Alexa device for your organization. The following contains a series of steps to set up an Alexa device. We ask that you contact Zemplee Support through phone call for a hassle-free setup experience- they'll take care of most of the work! To get started you will need a Zemplee Alexa device and to be in the location where you'd like the device to be placed. 

Wi-Fi Network Type:
Make sure you are connecting the device to a standard Wi-Fi network — one that simply requires a network name (SSID) and password.

❌ Alexa devices do not support networks that require:

  • Captive portals (e.g., those that open a web browser to log in or accept terms)
  • Enterprise networks with additional codes, certificates, or verification steps

Important: If you're setting up the Alexa device at a different home or facility than where it will be installed, please email the Wi-Fi network name, password, and security protocol for the final installation location to Zemplee Support at support@zemplee.com at least 48 hours prior to installation.

Step 1: Plug in the Device

  • Connect the included power adapter to a power outlet.
  • Plug the adapter into your Alexa device.

Step 2: Begin Device Setup

Follow the on-screen prompts to:

  1. Select a language
  2. Select Screen Visibility but NOT Screen Reader
  3. Connect to Wi-Fi
    • Have the Wi-Fi SSID (network name) and password ready.
    • Only use a standard Wi-Fi network (see FAQ for Wi-Fi requirements).
    • Note: Zemplee’s backend will automatically apply the final location and Wi-Fi settings for plug-and-play functionality.
    • Devices must remain plugged in and online for at least 48 hours after setup to allow backend configuration.

Step 3: Sign in to Alexa

  • Contact Zemplee Support at (888) 508-5908 and state the Organization and Patient you are setting up the Device for. 
  • For security Zemplee Support will ask you to state the first name, last name and birth date of the patient you are setting up the Alexa for. 
  • After confirmation, Zemplee Support will provide the necessary login credentials. Sign in on screen with these credentials. 
     
  • The next set of steps may or may not occur for every device setup process: 
    Once signed in:
  1. The device may display a 6-character code. 
  2. State the 6-character code to Zemplee Support 
  3. Also state the last four digits of the DSN found on the bottom of the the Device

Step 4: Finalize Device Settings

  1. Device Name (Optional): Choose a name that fits (e.g., “Member's Echo Show”) or skip.
  2. Address: Edit the address settings to local address; If you prefer to skip this step, that is fine as we will set it in the background.
  3. Time Zone: Set the correct time zone. 
  4. Device Location Room/Group (Optional): Choose the correct room label (e.g., Bedroom, Office, Kitchen).

Step 5: Wait and Complete Setup

  • Wait about 5 minutes for the device to complete setup.
  • You may be prompted to:
    • Choose a wallpaper (optional)
    • Set up a personal profile (optional)

Step 6: Disable Unwanted Features

During setup prompts:

  • Do pick a favorite photo display
  • ❌ Do not select a group or set up a family profile
  • ❌ Do not allow live-stream access to the camera
  • ❌ Do not enable Amazon Sidewalk
  • ❌ Do not enable Child-Friendly Content
  • ❌ When asked about Amazon Music or Audible, tap “Not Now”

Step 7: Optional Alexa Walkthrough

  • Alexa may offer a quick tutorial on helpful phrases — you may complete it or skip.

Step 8: Wait for Firmware Upgrades

  • Alexa will then go through a round of firmware upgrades if there are some. This may take up to 20 min. Feel free to ask any questions at this point before Support ends the call :) 
    • Leave the device plugged in and connected to the network.
  • Support will confirm that all your setup steps have been completed from your end. 
  • Please allow 24 hours for full device stability on details like location. However, feel free to start using your device in the meantime. 

Step 9. Final Confirmation

  • Once you receive an Alexa announcement stating the Alexa is ready for use, feel free to begin using the device. Once the device displays the home screen with rotating cards, the setup and association are complete.
    • Note: Zemplee will be running additional adjustments overnight to the device so please leave the device connected to the internet and plugged in overnight after completing the initial setup.
