The Dual Adaptive Bed Mat Sensor system determines both bed occupancy and when a member has gotten up from bed. This setup uses two Adaptive Bed Mat Sensors, one positioned across the chest area and one across the hips, to provide more precise detection of bed exit events.
After installation, it's important that both Adaptive Bed Mat Sensors be calibrated for an unoccupied bed. This calibration establishes a baseline threshold used to determine whether the bed is occupied or unoccupied.
Installation Steps
- Retrieve two Adaptive Bed Mat Sensors from the member's kit.
- Connect each Bed Mat cord to the input ports on the control box.
- Open the control box and remove the battery tab if necessary
- Ask the member or caregiver which side of the bed the member typically sleeps on.
-
Lift the mattress and place one pad across the member’s chest area and one pad across the hips, with the blue side facing up. Both sensors should go between the mattress and the box spring (or support slats), positioned perpendicular to the body.
- The chest sensor allows detection of the upper torso lifting off the bed, signaling a potential bed exit.
- The hip sensor provides standard bed occupancy detection.
- Once placed, plug both cords into the control box until they click securely.
- Follow standard calibration steps: press and hold the white calibration button on the control box for 5 seconds until the red light glows.
- Tuck the wire and control box in between the bed frame and mattress if possible. If possible tuck the wire and control out of reach under the bed.
