Removing the Activity Sensors
Discover how to remove activity sensors and optimize your device's performance in just a few simple steps.
Table of Contents
1. Motion Sensor Removal
Identify the Sensor Location
- Look for the white rectangular PIR (Passive InfraRed) motion sensor on a wall corner or flat wall where it was mounted with adhesive tape.
Gently Detach the Sensor
- Starting at one edge of the sensor, slowly peel it away from the wall or corner.
- If the adhesive is resistant, you can slightly warm it (e.g., using a hair dryer on low) or use a thin, non-sharp tool (like a plastic scraper) to ease the tape off.
- Avoid sudden force to prevent damaging the wall surface or the sensor’s casing.
Remove Excess Adhesive
- After the sensor is free, remove any leftover tape from the sensor and wall. Wiping the surface with a damp cloth or a mild adhesive remover (if needed) will help clean up any residue.
Store or Dispose Properly
- If you plan to reuse the sensor, store it in a safe place to prevent damage to the PIR lens and the oval button.
- If the sensor is no longer needed, dispose of it according to local electronic disposal regulations or return it to Zemplee if instructed.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- If this sensor was actively monitored by Zemplee, contact Support so they can update or remove the device from the hub configuration.
2. Open/Close Sensor (Entry Doors) Removal
Locate Both Sensor Pieces
- Find the Sensor piece (usually larger) and the Magnet piece (usually smaller) on or near the door edge/frame.
Separate the Sensor and Magnet
- Gently open the door so you can see both pieces.
- If needed, gently pry the magnet piece from the door or frame first to prevent them from sticking together unexpectedly.
Carefully Peel Off the Adhesive
- Starting at one corner, slowly peel the Sensor piece and the Magnet piece away from the surface.
- If the adhesive is strong, you can use mild heat or a plastic scraper to loosen it.
Clean Off Residue
- Remove any leftover tape or adhesive on the door/frame using a clean cloth and, if necessary, a mild adhesive remover.
Store or Dispose Properly
- If reusing, store both sensor halves together to avoid misplacement.
- If discarding, follow local electronic waste guidelines or return the sensor to Zemplee if requested.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- If you are removing the sensor permanently or relocating it, inform Zemplee Support so they can finalize or adjust the system’s settings.
3. Open/Close Sensor (Refrigerators) Removal
Find the Sensor and Magnet
- Locate the Sensor piece and Magnet piece typically placed on the corner or top of the fridge/freezer door.
Open the Fridge/Freezer Door
- Create enough space to handle each sensor piece without interference.
Gently Detach Both Pieces
- Peel off the Sensor piece and Magnet piece from the refrigerator surface.
- If the adhesive bond is tight, warm it slightly or use a plastic scraper to help loosen it.
Clean Any Adhesive Residue
- Wipe the refrigerator’s surface clean with a damp cloth or mild cleaner to remove all tape residue.
Store or Dispose Properly
- Keep the Sensor and Magnet together if you plan to reuse them.
- Otherwise, follow e-waste disposal regulations or return it as instructed by Zemplee.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- Let Zemplee Support know if the sensor is being removed permanently or relocated so they can update the system.
4. Adaptive Bed Mat Sensor Removal
Access the Control Box
- Locate the white Control Box placed under the mattress or near the bed.
- Carefully move the mattress if needed to reach the Control Box and cord connection.
Unplug the Bed Mat Cord
- Press down on the clip of the cord plug and gently pull it out from the port on the Control Box.
- Make sure not to tug directly on the cable—pull from the connector itself.
Remove the Sensor Pad
- Lift the mattress and carefully slide the blue sensor pad out from between the mattress and box spring (or bed slats).
Return Mattress to Normal Position
- Lower the mattress back to its original position.
Store or Dispose Properly
- If the bed mat is to be reused, store it flat or rolled gently to avoid creasing the sensor pad.
- If no longer needed, follow proper electronic disposal methods or return to Zemplee if instructed.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- Inform Support that the Bed Mat Sensor has been removed so they can update or remove the device registration.
5. Thin Chair Mat Sensor Removal
Locate the Chair Mat Sensor
- Find the thin sensor mat on or just beneath the chair cushion, connected to a small transmitter box.
Unplug the Sensor (If Applicable)
- If the sensor mat is detachable from its transmitter box, gently disconnect it by pressing on the clip of the cord plug.
Remove the Mat
- Slide or lift the sensor pad out from the cushion.
- If it was placed inside a cushion cover, unzip or open the cover and gently remove the pad.
Store or Dispose Properly
- Lay the mat sensor flat for storage to avoid creases.
- Dispose of or recycle according to local electronic waste guidelines, or return to Zemplee if needed.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- Let them know the Chair Mat Sensor has been removed so they can update the system accordingly.
6. Adaptive Chair Mat Sensor Removal
Find the Sensor and Control Box
- The Adaptive Chair Mat Sensor pad is typically connected to a “Bed Mat Sensor Box” or a similar transmitter box. Check under or inside the chair cushion.
Disconnect the Sensor Pad
- Carefully unplug the sensor pad from the transmitter box by releasing the clip on the connector.
Retrieve the Pad
- Remove the pad from beneath or inside the seat cushion.
- If inside the cushion cover, unzip/open the cover and slide it out carefully.
Return Cushion to Normal Position
- Close the cover and put the cushion back in place.
Store or Dispose Properly
- Store the pad flat if you plan to reuse it, or follow local regulations for e-waste disposal if discarding.
- Return it to Zemplee if instructed.
Notify Zemplee Support (If Applicable)
- If the sensor was actively monitored, inform Support so they can update or remove the device from the system.
General Tips for All Sensor Removals
-
Work Slowly
Pulling too quickly can damage surfaces or the sensor. -
Use Mild Heat if Needed
A hair dryer on low can soften adhesive, making removal easier. -
Clean Surfaces
After removing the sensor, clean and dry the area to remove any sticky residue. -
Handle Electronics with Care
Avoid bending or pressing on delicate sensor components. -
Notify Zemplee Support
If the sensor was actively monitored, always contact Support after removal to ensure the system configuration is updated.
Following these steps will help ensure safe removal and maintain the integrity of both the sensor devices and the surfaces they were attached to.
