👪 Setting Up Notification Profiles for Family Contacts
Why Families Should Receive Alert Notifications— and How to Configure Them Properly
Table of Contents
Family members play an important role in a member’s support system. For many, having visibility into their loved one’s well-being provides peace of mind and helps them stay engaged in the care process — without overwhelming them with unnecessary information. After all, we consider family as part of a member's Care Team too!
As an Administrator, you can use Notification Profiles to customize what alerts a family contact receives, when they receive them, and how.
👀 Why Do Family Contacts Want Alerts?
Family members typically want reassurance, not constant clinical oversight. They may be checking in during specific times of the day or only want to be alerted for high-impact events. Common goals include:
Confirming their loved one is awake and active
Being notified of concerning health events like high blood pressure
Limiting notifications to avoid alert fatigue
Receiving updates during specific hours when they are available
✅ Best Practices for Family Notification Profiles
When setting up Notification Profiles for family users, keep these guidelines in mind:
Best Practice | Why It Matters |
---|---|
Keep all In-App alerts ON | This ensures family can reference the full picture when they log into the Zemplee portal |
Limit text/email alerts to 1–3 types | Helps prevent alert fatigue and keeps communication meaningful |
Use time windows | Many family members prefer to receive updates only during certain hours or when they are available to respond |
Use email over text | Email is less disruptive and better suited for families who cannot respond to urgent alerts |
Create separate profiles for each family user | Customizes delivery based on their unique preferences and time zones |
📘 Example: Notification Profile for a Family Contact
Scenario:
Mary Smith is the daughter of a member and wants to be notified only between 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM. She prefers email alerts and doesn’t need text messages. She wants to know when her mom wakes up, if there’s no motion, or when her mom's blood pressure is high.
Recommended Profile Setup:
Setting | Value |
---|---|
Profile Name | Family – AM Updates |
Role | Family |
User | Mary Smith |
Channel | Email (3 alert types) + In-App (all alert types) |
Alerts | Wake Up, No Motion, High BP |
Time | 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM |
Tip: If multiple family members are involved, create individual profiles with tailored preferences for each person.
⚙️ How to Assign the Profile
Double-check that:
✅ The family contact's email (and/or phone, if setting texts) is filled out and correct
✅ The user is assigned the member's Care Team
Go to the Notification Profiles section in your admin dashboard.
Create a new profile.
Assign it to the appropriate Family user.
