Zemplee Alexa Device Deregistration Protocol
Trigger
An Alexa device is removed from active circulation: E.G. A Member is deactivated in Zemplee, Customer wants to remove an Alexa device, etc.
Step 1: Locate the Device
Identify the Member's:
- Organization Name
- Organization ID
- Alexa Device
- Device Serial Number (DSN)
Step 2: Attempt Device Deregistration in Alexa Smart Properties
If successful:
- Deregister the device.
- Delete the associated room.
- Mark the request complete once these two steps are undertaken.
Step 3: If Deregistration Fails
If the device is offline or cannot be deregistered manually:
- Record the Organization ID and Device Serial Number (DSN).
- Add the device to an Amazon Deregistration Tracker.
- Mark status as Pending Amazon Deregistration.
Step 4: Monthly Amazon Submission
Once per month:
- Export all devices marked Pending Amazon Deregistration.
- Submit the list to Amazon through the AES process.
- Update status once Amazon confirms deregistration.
- Delete the associated rooms.
- Mark the request complete.
Exception: Device Relocation Within the Same Wi-Fi Network
If an Alexa device is simply being moved from one residence to another and will continue operating on the same Wi-Fi network after the move, deregistration may not be necessary.
In this scenario, Support should:
- Disassociate the device from the current room.
- Reassociate the device to the new room.
- Verify the device is assigned to the correct Member and room.
- Delete the old room when applicable.
This approach is preferred because it avoids unnecessary deregistration and re-registration activities while allowing the device to be reassigned to its new location.
Use this process only when the device will remain on the same Wi-Fi network before and after the transition, and when the new residence is set up/ going to be used very shortly.
